A wicker dog bed is the better solution when looking for bedding for man’s best friend, I know this as I have one! I have just tried just about every type of bedding for the various dogs that I have owned over the years but I always come back to my favourite dog bed and that is one that is made of wicker.
I can think back and remember how strange it felt when I picked up my first new puppy from the animal shelter to take it home for the first time it’s so foreign for the little feller away from his little brothers and sisters and coming home to a new environment can be a little overwhelming.
Introducing a puppy into your home routine can come as a bit of shock at first and will turn everything upside down literally! For instance a small puppy is lively and curious small creature that is learning all the time.
The puppy can get into a whole lot more trouble compared to an older dog that has been there and done that sort of attitude who will sit back and normally watch the new puppy scamper around causing all sorts of mischief that an older dog is not at all interested in repeating. As with a little toddler visiting your home you need to look around the area where the pup will play and look for any foreseeable dangers that he could get into trouble with. In other words you need to puppy proof your home.
I like to always bring the dog home early in the morning, and preferably on a Saturday morning as this will give me the whole day with the newest member of the family. Remember you’re not the only one that is excited about a new member coming to join the family there will be much excitement from younger children and even husbands that make out that they are indifferent to the new pup. But if the pup shows hubby the slightest bit of favouritism his heart goes to marshmallow.
With the dog sniffing around his new environment, take the time to already have prepared for his arrival and have somewhere for him to have a drink and ensure that this is in a wet area as he will urinate regularly at any chance that he has. So it’s suggested that the laundry or somewhere that he will be sleeping will have newspaper down to collect any of his mishaps! I have always shown puppies where I have put the kitty litter, just because I have shown them where it is doesn’t mean that with all the excitement that they will remember where they have been shown and what it is used for. But with anything, practice makes perfect and you will need to be very patient in these early days as there will be a lot of accidents.
If the children are older get them to take the puppy outside if the weather is good this will further your dog’s inquisitive mind and it will tire him completely, as remember he is a little baby that needs a lot of rest after he has finished playing.
With the puppy’s first night home this will be all that strange to him also. It is difficult for him to understand how there were lots of playmates for him to play and wrestle and one by one they had gone off to bed until he was now in the laundry by himself alone.
This is where the preparation comes in handy as you will have already have purchased your brand new wicker dog bed. In the bed you would of placed a chew proof soft dogs cushion and the reason I like the wicker basket is the fact that when the dog is in the bed they will snuggle down and feel cocooned. You will also need to have some sort of washable blanket in the basket as well. But as you pooch is still learning he will try to drink or eat and have his paws in both water and food and return to his bedding. This in the beginning means that bedding will get soiled one way or another.
Do you remember what it was like when you came home from the hospital with a new baby, how you put them in their crib or bassinet, looked down on her with pride while they slept then tip toed out the door and started to relax and what seemed like minutes ago you put her down now she was crying and wanting attention? A new puppy will be doing the same thing!
Be prepared before turning the light out make sure that not only is the pup comfy in their new wicker bed but in might be worth your while to put a warm hot water bottle into the pet bed along with an alarm clock so that he feels that he has company. Perhaps another thought that I have had is a puppy pen this will restrict your pooch from roaming too far, which is a good thing when they are so little.
As time goes by you will find that like any other member of your family that he will fit into a routine that suits all. When he is older you will be able to move his wicker dog basket and pet bedding outdoors during the day so that either he can sun himself in his luxury dog bed and also have a most welcome snooze to recharge his battery.
There are many other types of dog bed on the market, so if want more variety for your four legged friend you could check out memory foam dog beds, bolster dog beds, designer dog beds & many other types of pet furniture.
